Welcome to Oakland University’s First Year Advising Center (FYAC) student blog.

Here, our current students will share everything you need to know about making the most of your first year on campus at OU. From residence hall living tips to study strategies that will help ease your test prep worries, we’ll be covering it all from the student’s point of view.

The First Year Advising Center is the central hub for our freshman students. We offer academic advising support for students as they create their class schedules. Our advisers help with concerns about coursework, campus living, and provide resources for students looking to further connect with the campus. Advisers also guide students who may need an extra push to find the right major for their interests. We do a lot around here and it’s all to make life at Oakland University easier for our students.

You’ve probably heard the great news about OU already. We are a student-focused institution that prides itself on building strong relationships with each student that sets foot on campus. With over 1,400 acres of rolling meadows and wooded hills, we offer a scenic view as you make your way through campus to classes, events, and coffee meet-ups with friends. 93% of our graduates are employed or pursuing continuing education. OU is consistently ranked as one of the most LGBTQ friendly universities and we are the second safest campus in the nation.

These details about the FYAC and OU are pretty outstanding. But, what is it like to really be a first-year student here at Oakland University?
